Layin' around

Either May was a really lazy month and nothing picture-worthy happened or it was really busy and I didn't have time to take pictures. I honestly can't remember, but when I opened my May pictures folder, I only have a handful and they're of the kids and I laying around the house.  I don't have a single picture taken outside, anything around the house or on the farm, etc.  Just random pictures of the kids.  So, here you go...

Here's a favorite place of Evie's to lay.  You can tell she's sleepy... heavy eyes and thumb in the mouth.

 "Hi up there!"

Snuggling under a blanket while they watch Sesame Street.  Evie gets sleepy about this time (thus the thumb in the mouth) and Samuel is fully engrossed in whatever is going on.

Samuel and Evie do just about everything together.  It's rare to find them separated.  This morning they were reading the paper together.  And by "reading the paper", I mean looking at a Lowe's ad and talking about the pictures.

This was a Sunday morning, pre-coffee and I was super-tired.  After breakfast, I thought I'd lay down for a few minutes before we had to start getting ready for church.  I should know better... laying on the couch with the kiddos present is never a relaxing experience.

You are my sunshine

When we moved into our house 3 years ago, I loved the tan walls.  I thought it'd be great to have a neutral backdrop to decorate around.  It didn't take me long to realize this wasn't going to work though because all of our furniture, curtains, etc are neutral.  Our previous houses had colorful walls, so the neutral furnishing worked well.  Here's the house shortly after we moved in...

See... boring!  We picked out a new golden-yellow color about a year and a half ago, but never could find the right time to paint.  I figured I needed a day with really good weather so I could have the windows open to keep the paint fumes out of the house and see if I could find a sitter to keep the kids from being underfoot and breathing in the fumes.

I decided last Saturday was the day to paint.  It wasn't supposed to be too hot and the neighbors were going to watch the kids.  By about 9am I had everything prepped and was getting ready to start.  Dan took the kids outside for a bit before taking them to the neighbors.  They were being really good, so he decided to keep them home.  Then by 10am it was miserably hot and humid out, so I had to shut the windows and turn on the AC.  I bought one of the new low-VOC paints, so I hoped it ended up working as well as they tout.  Dan put the kids down for a nap at 11am then headed to Lowe's to pickup our deck supplies (that will be another post).  I just finished the first coat when it was time to get the kids up for lunch.  We ate, then they played really well in their bedrooms while I did the second coat.  When Dan got home from Lowe's, he said he couldn't smell paint at all when he walked in the house.  I'll definitely use the same paint again!

Here's the kitchen area now...

As soon as I finished, it immediately felt happier and brighter in the kitchen.  I wonder if studies have been done on serotonin levels and room colors?  And now that I know I can paint without having to have the windows open, I definitely won't wait another year and a half!  Next up, dining room and living room!
